Two-minute door hinge fix
A creaking hinge does not need WD-40. A drop of any cooking oil on the pin, then swing the door ten times to work it in. Wipe the run-off or it collects dust and blackens the frame.

Hing in the dal, not just for taste
A pinch of hing in the tadka makes rajma and chana noticeably easier on the stomach. Add it to hot oil for a second only — burnt hing turns bitter and there is no rescuing it.
