Pull a long sock over a broom handle, slide it along each fan blade and pull back. The dust comes off inside the sock instead of onto the bed. Turn the sock inside out over the bin.

Hang a wet bedsheet or khus mat right in front of the table fan and point it at the bed. Air comes through the wet cloth and drops the room temperature by a few degrees. Re-wet it once at 2am. Works best in dry heat — in humid coastal cities it just makes the room sticky.

Half a lemon dipped in salt, rubbed over a dull copper lota, brings the shine back in two minutes. Rinse well and dry immediately — a wet copper vessel spots overnight.
